Impact of a harbour construction was investigated on two underwater marine caves. The increase in the sediment load caused the decline of filter feeder organisms. Encrusting and flattened growth forms were the most affected by the impact. We encourage the use of non-taxonomic descriptors (growth forms and trophic guilds). A systematic sampling is recommended in environments with strong ecological gradients.
