Effect of fabric biaxial prestress on the fatigue of woven E-glass/polyester composites

Biaxial fabric prestressing of E-glass/polyester composite system was employed to enhance composite fatigue life.

Optimum prestressing level can prolong fatigue life of the composite when normalized peak stress is below 0.6.

Over-prestressed fabric was a critical choice and not recommended, especially for samples loaded at off-axis direction.

The benefits drawn from employing the prestressing method could recede with increasing the off-axis fabric orientations.
