The paper presents the problem of stabilization of the payload at a given depth despite the sea waves and vessel motion.

The model of the flexible rope takes into account the hydrodynamic forces when the part of the rope is submerged.

The rope is discretized by means of a modified formulation of the rigid finite element method.

The model is validated for static and dynamic problems.

An artificial neural network is used in control.
