Most knowledge on mammalian spermatogonia derives from mouse models. Limited information on spermatogonia is available for human and non-human primates. The spermatogonial compartment is phenotipically and functionally heterogeneous. Extrinsic factors regulate spermatogonia self-renewal and differentiation in a cyclic manner.
