Influence of SaOS-2 cells on corrosion behavior of cast Mg-2.0Zn0.98Mn magnesium alloy

Mg alloy (ZM21) was immersed in cell culture medium with and without living cells (SaOS-2). The presence of cells decreased medium pH, hence increased corrosion rate of ZM21. Living cells decreased polarization resistance (Rp) of ZM21 after 6 h and increased corrosion current density (Icorr) at 48 h. Mg alloys is useful to demonstrate the accelerating effect of cells on corrosion of metals.
