The effect of Brønsted-based methane sulfonic acid is illustrated in microwave catalytic-esterification of glycerol with oleic acid.

Microwave-assisted conversion was 53.5% higher than conventional reactor.

The presence of impurities in industrial grade crude glycerol has negative effect on product conversion and yield.
