Prospect of DNA as bio-recognition element for heavy metal sensing are illustrated Recent progress in sensing Hg2+, Ag+, Cu2+, Pb2+ with electrochemical DNA sensors. Numerous electrochemical signal amplification techniques are discussed. Surface fabrication by nanomaterial decrease non-specific adsorption of probe DNA. In depth study on electron transfer before and after DNA metal binding is required.
