Identified and examined expression of the pyrokinin receptor in Ixodes scapularis. Phylogenetic analysis verifies the receptor as a pyrokinin receptor family member. Pyrokinin receptor transcript is highly abundant in the synganglion. Pleiotropic actions are likely since receptor transcript is found in other tissues. Receptor functional assay confirms potent activity of endogenous pyrokinin peptides.
