Small-molecule models of tyrosinase: From ligand hydroxylation to catalytic monooxygenation of external substrates

We synthesized copper(I) complexes with heterocyclic compounds as tyrosinase model systems. One model system shows an tyrosinase-like aromatic ligand hydroxylation. The catalytic activity of the complexes towards external substrates was investigated. Different monophenols were used to investigate their catalytic behaviour. A catalytic cycle was proposed and important intermediates were characterized.
