[(THA)(HSO4)] as the first nanoaliphatic ammonium-based ionic liquid. [(THA)(HSO4)] ionic liquid was synthesized through a simple and safe chemical route in water. [(THA)(HSO4)] was applied as a recyclable nanocatalyst for the synthesis of bis(indolyl)methanes. The generality of this method, high yields and short reaction times. Some bis(indolyl)methane derivatives were synthesized and reported for the first time.
