Opportunistic yeasts and yeast-like fungi are present in tap water and groundwater.

Isolates mainly belong to genera Aureobasidium, Exophiala, Candida, and Rhodotorula.

Culture-independent techniques confirmed the presence of Aspergillus and Exophiala.

Statistic analyses linked fungal presence in water with calcium, magnesium and nitrate.

Exophiala, Candida and Rhodotorula are transferred via water to household appliances.
