Increase in ethanol or butanol content led to nonlinear increase in ignition delay. Diesel fuel is more sensitive to changes in alcohol content than biodiesel fuel. A combination of energy, chemical and dilution effects can explain pressure peaks. Delays decrease with temperature more sharply for biodiesel than for diesel blends. Initial temperature and pressure affect differently to diesel and biodiesel blends.
