Consumption of up to 2.5 mg/kg bw echimidine in the diet had no adverse effect on Wistar rats. Lasiocarpine in the diet caused decreased bodyweight gain at 1.2 mg/kg bw lasiocarpine or more in male Wistar rats. Lasiocarpine in the diet caused decreased bodyweight gain at 2.5 mg/kg bw in female Wistar rats. The subchronic dietary NOAEL of echimidine is 2.5 mg/kg bw but that of lasiocarpine is 0.6 mg/kg bw.
