Analysis on 7322 urines led to a unisex cut-off value of > 200 bacteria/μl.

This cut-off value leads to a NPV of 96%, avoiding culturing 49% of all samples.

Introducing gender-specific cut-off values improves culture results.

The female cut-off value remains at 200 bacteria/μl (NPV 94.9%).

The male cut-off can be raised to > 400 bacteria/μl (NPV 95%).
