Defect-free samples of advanced iron aluminides by SLM and LMD are possible. Alloying concepts developed for as-cast iron aluminides can be realised through LAM. Substantial reduction of the grain size does not lead to an improved ductility. In some cases LAM leads to production of ductile iron aluminides.
