Vis–NIR emission properties of Pr2O3: Li2O–Al2O3–B2O3–SiO2 glasses prepared by melt-quenching technique are analysed.
NIR emission spectrum of Pr3+ (1.49 μm: 1D2 → 1G4) covered 1.30–1.67 μm emission region which includes E to U bands.
The emission cross-section (σp) and effective bandwidth (Δλeff) of 1D2 → 1G4 transition are 6.16 × 10−21 cm2 and 207 nm.
The validity of ion–ion interactions & energy transfer through cross-relaxations is verified from Dexter's model.
Energy transfer between Pr3+ ions is governed by dipole–dipole mechanism.
