A finite element model for Indian plate is developed to identify seismically active regions in India. Various boundary conditions, lateral strength and rheological conditions are explored for the Indian plate. The stress field in India is analyzed by considering the long and short term behaviors of the plate. The active seismic zones are clearly distinguished from the simulated stress field in India.
