Radiology has made significant advances in imaging technology by combining X-rays and computers. What was once only possible in imagination is now a reality. A three-dimensional (3D) image can be obtained by reconstructing data from a single data set. The application of 3D reconstruction principles has opened a whole new world in breast imaging. A review of the basic principles of tomography will increase the understanding of digital breast tomosynthesis.
