In this paper, a generalized coupled Hirota system with higher-order and linear coupling terms has been investigated. Based on the Lax integrable property, the Darboux transformation (DT) algorithm has been constructed. Some new solutions under the vanishing and non-vanishing backgrounds are derived, including periodic solutions, breathers and rogue wave solutions. By some graphic simulations the propagation characteristics of those solutions influenced by higher-order and linear coupling terms are analyzed.
