The master S-N curve approach was used to assess fatigue life of breathing webs of plate girders. Mesh-insensitivity of the structural stress method was demonstrated for breathing webs. The master S-N curve accurately predicted the location and life of fatigue cracking in breathing webs. Geometrical imperfection plays an important role in fatigue response of steel plate girders.
