Two in three U.S. adults experienced one or more adversities in childhood. Strong associations between ACEs and HIV risk behaviors are found. The associations between ACEs and HIV risk behaviors vary by gender. Males with childhood adversities are more vulnerable to risk behaviors than females. Prevention programs should examine childhood adversities and be gender-specific.
