The paper provides a new look at dependence of a cometary brightness and a solar activity.

For the 15 short-period comets the positive deviations of brightness from the long-term trend were analyzed.

The covered period 1850–1987 corresponds to the cycles of solar activity since 9–22.

Neither the number of brightenings nor the size depend on the phase of the solar cycle.

Multiple brightenings of different comets in the same period are not related to any phase of the solar cycle.
