Cotton based activated carbon fiber was first time prepared by microwave heating. Influence of microwave power, activation time and acid concentration were studied. Activated carbon fiber with surface area of 1370 m2/g was obtained. The maximum methylene blue adsorption capacity was 476 mg/g.
