Effect of the recirculation of SL was investigated depending on the biomass type. By recirculation, mass and energy yields of the hydrochar increased. Using SL decreased leaching of soluble fragments from biomass in next step hydrothermal. SL recirculation makes the hydrothermal carbonization process environmentally friendly.
