In-situ carboxylate recovery and simultaneous pH control with tailor-configured bipolar membrane electrodialysis during continuous mixed culture fermentation
In-situ recovery of acids by bipolar electrodialysis for mixed culture fermentation. Carboxylate productivity increased 1.5 times when ISPR was coupled to fermentation. ISPR selectively increased the C2 and C3 acid productivity in continuous reactor. Simultaneous acid recovery and pH control in fermenter was achieved by EDBM. Base consumption for fermentation was completely eliminated.
