C-ZnO is fabricated with the assistance of carboxymethyl cellulose. Carbon enters the lattice of ZnO, evidenced by various characterization. Photoluminescent spectra display intensive visible emission for C-ZnO. C-ZnO exhibits enhanced photocatalytic activity, superior to TiO2 P25. Photocatalytic performance retains high even after 5-cycle re-use.
