Micro-indentation tests showed that hardness follows bilinear profile for case-carburized steel. A numerical model was developed to study effects of case carburizing on RCF lives. Linear correlation between hardness & Sy, residual stress variation was considered. A modifying factor to calculate the L10 lives of case carburized steels is derived. Case depth of 6.2b for Pmax = 2 GPa and 7.6b for Pmax = 3.5 GPa have maximum RCF lives.
