Teresina has reached a higher rate of urban sprawl in the years 2010–2014, when compared with previous periods. The intra-urban demography density in the city varies broadly and it is far from the standard of 100 inhabitants/ha. Demographic low-density areas in the East District concentrate most of the high-income families. Peripheral and remote housing settlements agglomerate most of the low-income families.
