Aggression is a key behaviour not well integrated within life history research. We quantified the effects of age and experience on the use of aggression. We studied three types of aggression relevant to male fruit flies' natural history. Young, sexually mature flies were reluctant to use aggression. Sexually experienced males decreased aggression towards females but not males.
