Protective properties and durability characteristics of experimental and commercial organic coatings for the preservation of porous stone

A free-solvent photo-polymerizable methacrylate-based nano-composite was proposed as protective of porous stones. Two calcareous local stones (Pietra Leccese, PL, and Pietra Gentile, PG) were selected. The main protective characteristics of the experimental nano-filled coating were assessed. The characteristics of the experimental coating were compared to those of commercial water-borne ones. The experimental photo-polymerizable product performed even better than the commercial organic ones.
