g-C3N4 is fabricated by directly heating guanidine hydrochloride. Fe2O3/g-C3N4 is prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation method. 0.5 wt% Fe2O3/g-C3N4 possesses the highest adsorbed oxygen species concentration. Fe2O3–g-C3N4 heterojunction inhibits the recombination of photoinduced charge carriers. 0.5 wt% Fe2O3/g-C3N4 shows excellent photocatalytic activity for 4-NP degradation.
