Coarsening of size selected Pt nanoparticles on γ-Al2O3 was studied by in situ STEM.

Ostwald ripening under forming gas was effectively suppressed by size selection.

Without size selection, Ostwald ripening dominated particle migration/coalescence.

The particle diffusion coefficient of 2 nm Pt particles was unexpectedly small.
