A new procedure for the synthesis of mixed metal oxides having as precursor hydrotalcite-like materials templated with sucrose or cornstarch. Cornstarch templated LDHs showed better catalytic capacity with an average increase of about 100% compared to the reference materials. Great potential of using carbohydrates as templates in the preparation of heterogeneous catalysts for transesterification reactions.
