A HC system was successfully applied to increase activated sludge solubilisation and biodegradability. Geometry of the HC device and operating conditions affected the intensity of the HC process. Respirometric tests proved that HC could change the sludge floc structure and damage some bacteria. Specific applied energy values agree with previous studies on hydrodynamic or acoustic systems.
