Drug delivery to the central nervous system is limited by the blood–brain barrier (BBB).

The Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin fragment cCPEY306W/S313H binds to claudin-5 of the BBB.

cCPEY306W/S313H reversibly increases paracellular permeability of in vitro- and zebrafish BBB models.

We suggest cCPEY306W/S313H as a tight junction modulator to improve drug delivery across the BBB.
