Microstructure change in wood cell wall fracture from mechanical pretreatment and its influence on enzymatic hydrolysis

Initial moisture content differentiated the wood cell wall fractures in early stage of milling. Microstructure features of micronized wood were visualized by electronic microscopy. There was fracture transition from middle lamella to inner cell wall layers as increasing initial moisture content in wood. The microstructure changes of micronized wood contributed to improving enzymatic hydrolysis by 2–6 times.
