EU standard bio-methane was obtained regardless of the gas-liquid flow configuration. Optimum bio-methane composition was achieved at a L/G = 0.5 under co-current operation. Counter-current operation decreased biomass productivity and the cultivation broth pH. High C, N, P and S recoveries were achieved by decoupling the HRT from the SRT.
