The Total-SMOX mouse line overexpresses SMOX in all organs. SMOX oxidizes spermine producing spermidine, 3-aminopropanal and H2O2. SMOX chronical H2O2 production alters the redox state of skeletal muscle and hearth. Skeletal muscle and hearth show different responses to SMOX overexpression. The Total-SMOX line is a new genetic model useful for muscle physiological study.
