A series of NaScF4:Yb3+/Er3+ UCNPs have been synthesized by a simple hydrothermal process. The out colour from green to red in NaScF4:Yb3+/Er3+ are obtained by adjusting the reactions time. The mechanism of the colour tuning is due to the defects of different samples.
