<span id="p202">span>Anemia has been shown to be an independent risk factor for cardiovascular events, in the community, in patients with heart failure.

sSec_2">Aim

spar0010">Assess the impact of anemia on prognosis by measuring the association between hemoglobin levels and clinical outcome of patients with ACS.

sSec_3">Methods

spar0015">We proceed to a prospective study of 128 patients admitted for ACS, admitted in Intensive Care Unit of Cardiology department of IBN ROCHD University Hospital of Casablanca (Morocco). We compare two groups: patients with anemia (group A) and without anemia (group B), anemia was defined as haemoglobin less than 13 mg/dL in men or less than 12 mg/dL in women.

sSec_4">Results

spar0020">Of 136 patients included in this study, 51 (37.5%) patients have anemia, mean age was 58, 2&plusmn; 12 years, with a male predominance in both groups. No differences in co-morbidities were found. The mean hemoglobin in group A, B was 10 and 14g/dl respectively. The anemia was associated with more left heart decompensation 61.5% vs 20.6% (p=0.003) and more risk for cardiogenic shock 25% vs 6% (P=0.02). Group A was associated with high risk on in-hospital mortality 46% vs 9.8% (p=0.001).

sSec_5">Conclusion

spar0025">There are limited data on the impact of anemia on clinical outcomes in ACS, those patients are particularly at higher risk, in our study anemia was an independent predictive factor of mortality.
