Entrapped cell-membrane bioreactor (MBR) delayed fouling condition. Treatment performances of entrapped cell- and suspended cell-MBRs were comparable. Pore blocking was the main fouling cause in entrapped cell- and suspended cell-MBRs. Extracellular substance and product releases were limited in entrapped cell-MBR.
