Cations rely on changing the electrostatic and hydration forces to affect HA fouling. HA fouling is mainly governed by electrostatic forces in the Na+ environment. Hydration forces play a key role in mitigating HA fouling in the Mg2+ environment The hydration ability of Mg2+ is much stronger than that of Na+.
