Porous spong shaped ZnO was successfully synthesized through electrospinning and subsequent calcination techniques.

Metal silver was successful modification on the surface of porous ZnO samples via photoreduction method.

Because of the porous and roughness surface, the specific surface area becomes larger and the active sites are more that make the photocatalytic performance improved.

Because of metallic silver could increase the rate of electron-transfer process and the special morphology the Ag/ZnO heterostructures showed an amazing UV-light photocatalytic effect.

The synthetic mechanism of porous spong-shaped ZnO and the photocatalytic mechanism of the Ag/ZnO samples have been conjectured.
