Novel fluorescent sensor for Zn(II) based on bis(pyrrol-2-yl-methyleneamine) ligands

Three new bis(pyrrol-2-yl-methyleneamine) ligands 57 were synthesized in high yields via condensation of diamines 24 with two equivalents of 2-formyl-pyrrole 1. Compounds 57, which absorb UV light between 352 and 354nm in THF without fluorescence, display obvious fluorescence with excitation between 400 and 413nm and emission between 503 and 510nm upon complexation with Zn2+. Based on its fluorescent properties and selectivity toward different metal ions, ligand 5 is a very promising fluorescent materials for a zinc ion sensor.
