The volatile oil of Waterweed was extracted by petroleum ether and then fractionated with some chemical reagent. The volatile compounds were analyzed by GC-MS. The results of GC-MS analysis indicated that this oil was a complex mixture of 32 identified constituents, which represented about 63.9 % of the total oil. The growth inhibition rate of Microcystis aeruginosa by the volatile oil was 27.9 % , when the concentration of the volatile oil was 30.0 mg/L. The results provided valuable information for eutrophic waters recovering.
