Chlorella vulgaris was successfully cultivated in domestic wastewater with low nitrogen and suspended solid concentration. The growth rate of microalgae was hampered in contaminated wastewater. High lipid yield (32.7%) was attained when the microalgae was cultivated under low nitrogen concentration. Growth kinetic models were assessed and valid for cultivation in contaminant-free wastewater.
