Diet high in n-3/n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) ratio is cardioprotective.

We studied the impact of PUFA membrane incorporation on ABCA1 cholesterol efflux pathway.

Results differ between mouse macrophages (J774) and primary human macrophages (HMDM).

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) reduced the ABCA1 function in both models and this effect is PKA-dependent in HMDM.
