Manipulations of cholinergic transmission impair aspects of spatial memory behavior. Acetylcholine modulates intrinsic properties of excitatory and inhibitory neurons. Acetylcholine may alter the signal-to-noise ratio of spatial representations. Acetylcholine alters location and movement speed coding by sensory input.
