A simple but effective way of fabricating high-performance Fe3O4@SiO2@Ag MNPs.

The inner SiO2 shell improves the dispersion of MNPs and provides sites for Ag seed deposition.

The shell-coating process was completed within a few seconds and the resulting product highly uniform in size and shape.

The MNPs combine the merits of both Ag NPs and Fe3O4 MNPs can be a versatile SERS substrate.

Detection of the pesticide thiram with a low LOD of 1 ÿ 10⿿9 M.
