Charge-transfer and hypercrosslinked phases retain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Shape selectivity and planarity selectivity on DNAP, 5HGN and HC-Tol are studied.

The retention of PAHs is dependent on π–π interaction and inductive interaction.

DNAP has the largest planarity selectivity. 5HGN has the strongest π–π interaction.

Thermodynamics shows no change in retention mechanism for PAHs over 20–60 °C.
